Pat Sinclair is an avocado distributor on the Big Island who has been in business for over 30 years, and he fondly talks about how Kokua Market was his very first account on Oahu. His philosophy and mission is to help small family farms in Kona to make extra money through purchasing avocados from them at the highest price and turning around and selling them at the lowest possible price to stores like Kokua Market, thus taking good care of the farmers and passing the savings on to the consumer. The growing season lasts about 9 months with summer being the off season. When his avocados are available, Kokua is the first store he will sell them to, and at the end of the season, Kokua is his last customer. Pat believes in being a steward of the land and is as environmentally conscious as possible. For example, the avocados are all shade grown in a natural bed of leaves, pesticide free. The highest quality product is very important to him. To provide such high quality, Pat and the farmers put their resources together as a community to grow the best possible avocados.
